A meeting was held last evening between the President Mahinda Rajapakse and importers of second hand vehicles and it was decided to relax some of the regulations applicable for the import of vehicles.

The prohibition of importing vehicles that are more than one year old is to be repealed. Consequently, Commercial Vehicles that are not more than four years old and Non Commercial Vehicles that are not more than two years old can be imported.

According to Mr. Yoga Perera the chairman of the vehicle Importers Association, the amendment of vehicle imports Regulations will allow people to buy reconditioned vehicles economically.
